I recently read two books on the subject 'Woman at home' or I should say 'Woman not working in the formal workplace' The two books have vastly different approaches on the subject.
BIG purple Mommy by Coleen Hubbard http://www.bigpurplemommy.comhave a secular approach while Passionate Housewives desperate for God by J Chancey & S McDonald http://www.yoursacredcalling.blogspot.comhave a Christian approach.
The fact that the topic gets addressed in book-form, tells me that it is a topic that is current and of interest to woman everywhere. It's as if woman wants validation for what they do with their lives when it falls outside the stereo-type .Staggering that the 'stereo-type' have changed so much through only 2 generations ! Mothers in the sixties were typically at home; there was no need to write a book about WHY you are staying at home.Mothers of the seventies and later, are professionals, super woman juggling work and family in an every faster spinning world.If you as a woman are staying at home in the 21st century, you somehow need to justify that.
I 'm not going into the pro's and con's of these two books and their differences. My advise: Go read for yourself after you have asked the Lord's advice on this matter. I recall the words of a dear old lady in her eighties,speaking at a Christian function I attended some years ago;
Woman, you just serve the Lord !
Man, dien jy net die Here ! (her words in Afrikaans)
I am keeping to her advise. We all struggle with our roles in life, wondering if we are doing the right thing by staying at home or working outside the home. Commit your ways to the Lord and He will give you peace on this issue. No one woman or author can tell you what is right. God knows. And if you ask Him, He will answer you irrefutably on this issue and grant you His peace.
Commit your way to the Lord[roll and repose each care of your load on Him];trust (lean on, rely on,and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5 (AMP)
Now to Him Who, by (in consequience of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and ] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think [ infinitely beyond our highest prayers,desires,thoughts,hope,or dreams ] - To Him be the Glory....... ! Amen Ephesians 3 (AMP)
